One thing that I loved about To Tame a Highlander was that there was no insta-love/lust. Gavrael and Jillian already had a history together and we just needed to get filled in. With The Highlander’s Touch Moning resorts back to insta-love, which I find pretty annoying, because she already used this plot device in the first book. Luckily, Circenn is a loveable hero and Lisa dealt with the situation pretty realistically, which made me appreciate her and like this story.Circenn is a man of many stringent rules. He lives his life according to these rules he’s made up, but when Lisa shows up, much to his dismay, his rules go out the window. It was enjoyable seeing Circenn question himself and loosen up a bit. Although, I thought his progress went a little too quickly, I was pleased with how Moning developed Lisa. Lisa is a 21st century girl who finds herself in the year 1314. Lisa’s life in the past few years have been rough and it’s easy to sympathize with her. Overall, I thought she was a well rounded character. I liked that she didn’t give into Circenn easily despite her attraction. There’s nothing worse than an easy heroine.
I also liked the side characters in this story. Circenn’s boys were highly entertaining. I also liked the twist and how Adam, who features In Beyond the Highland Mist, comes back in this book. I always found Adam Black interesting and can’t wait to learn more about him.
The only reason why this book receives 3 stars instead of 4 is because the ending was so freaking fast. Circenn goes from stubbornly refusing to learn ancient magic to being a whiz kid. I hated that everything was wrapped up in a pretty little bow so quickly.
